G.hn standard was originally developed for in-home networking and now using Metanoia MT-G2501 chipset, it can also be used to fulfill the increasing demands of the Ethernet over Coax (EoC) access network applications. Cable operators do not need to rebuild the infrastructure of their existing cable networks to meet the increasing demands of their customers for higher data rate and they can upgrade their networks using a better and more cost effective solution compared to other existing solutions in this market.

G.hn transceivers based on Metanoia's MT-G2501 chipset, operating over a single cable can utilize frequency spectrum up to 100 MHz for data transmission and offer PHY rate up to 1 Gbps over existing coaxial cables and provide ultra-high speed for cable TV access network and support applications like Video-on-Demand (VoD), HD IPTV, Voice over IP (VoIP), surveillance and high-speed internet access to subscribers. Since coaxial cable network is a relatively clean environment compared to powerline, Metanoia's G.hn solution can deliver significantly higher performance and reliability over coaxial cable network, thereby providing a seamless path for Cable operators to upgrade their networks at an economical cost and enabling them to deliver value-added services to the subscribers.

Metanoia's  G.hn chipset implements Gigabit Ethernet MAC providing MII, GMII and RGMII interface. This enables a system integrator to build a standalone Ethernet to G.hn bridge or G.hn embedded in many broadband devices, such as Gigabit Ethernet media converter, gateways, and Wi-Fi router. This gives a system integrator unprecedented flexibility to customize its product offerings for high-end market without being hampered by performance limitations of a single G.hn built-in SoC that includes network layer bridging and routing functionality.
